Modifying a station and its frequencies

Current land mobile licence holders may need to provide Industry Canada with information about changes to their stations and/or the frequencies they are using on those stations. For those clients, we provide a mechanism for retrieving your station and frequency information for modification.

While the fixed and mobile station input forms are different, the process for retrieving station and frequency information is identical.

The first step in any modification is to retrieve the authorized (licensed) station you wish to modify; you must retrieve the station before retrieving frequencies for modification.

Modifying a Station

To retrieve and modify a station:

  1. From the Application Summary, create a new station record for the type of station (fixed or mobile) that you wish to modify.
  2. On the form, the Application Type defaults to "Create New". Click "Search and Modify" to modify a station. Any time you click this option, a search window opens so that you can retrieve your station information from our records.
  3. In the search window, specify search criteria if desired. If you do not specify any search criteria, all your station records will be returned.
  4. Click the Search button. A list of stations is displayed.
  5. Use the link in the Location column to view all information related to that station.
  6. If this is the station you wish to modify, click the Modify This Authorized Station button at the bottom of the form. The information is copied to the form in the main window, and the search window is closed. (Select "Search and Modify" again to reopen the search window.)
  7. Make any necessary changes to the information. Most fields are optional. If you do not have changes to the station, you can simply save this record and proceed with your frequency modification. You cannot change the following fields:
    - Licence Number
    - Call Sign (fixed stations only)
  8. Click the Save button. You are presented with a view of the information you have just retrieved and modified.

Modifying a Frequency

To modify a frequency, you must first retrieve and save the station that uses that frequency. It is not necessary to edit the station, but you can only modify a frequency on a modified station.

To retrieve and modify a frequency:

  1. From the view of a modified station, create a new frequency record.
  2. On the form, the Application Type defaults to "Create New". Click "Search and Modify" to modify a station. Any time you click this option, a search window opens so that you can retrieve your frequency information from our records. (If you are not on a modified station, an error message is displayed.)
  3. All frequencies used on this station are searched automatically and listed in the search window.
  4. Use the link in the Tx Frequency column to view all information related to that frequency.
  5. If this is the frequency you wish to modify, click the Modify This Authorized Frequency button at the bottom of the form. The information is copied to the form in the main window, and the search window is closed. (Select "Search and Modify" again to reopen the search window.)
  6. Make any necessary changes to the information. Most fields are optional. You cannot change the Record ID field.
  7. For frequencies on fixed stations, indicate if you have any changes to your filtering devices. See "Filter Modifications" below for details.
  8. Click the Save button. You are presented with a view of the information you have just retrieved and modified.

Filter Modifications

For fixed stations, we store information about the filtering devices you use on each frequency. To simplify the application process, we do not provide a mechanism to retrieve and modify your filter records.

When you select a frequency for modification, the system determines the number of Tx and Rx filter records and the total losses, and copies this information to the main form into read-only fields. You cannot update these values directly.

If the number of filters seems incorrect, note that Tx/Rx filters are counted twice. In many cases, we divide complex filtering devices into two or more records so that we can indicate all their functions in our database.

Next to this information, we ask if you are making any filter changes as part of your modifications. If you answer "No", you will not be able to add filter records to the frequency record in your application. Your power is calculated using the filter losses retrieved from our database. When your application is processed, we will not update your filter records.

If you answer "Yes", you should indicate on your application each filtering device you are using on this frequency, whether it is a new device or one that was used previously. Your power is calculated using the filter losses in your application. When your application is processed, we will remove any of your existing filter records from our database, and include your new filters.
