Creating a new fixed station

A fixed station is a radio station authorised to operate at a fixed point, or a transportable station which may be relocated but is not operated while in motion. Consider how the station is used rather than the type of equipment when considering whether a station is fixed or mobile.

Your fixed station record consists of the station itself, any frequencies you will use to transmit and receive on that station, and any filters used to condition the signal on your frequencies. As well, for permanent stations, you will have to create an attestation of the possible environmental and land-use impact of your station.

Creating a fixed station

To create a fixed station:

  1. On the Application Summary, click Create Fixed Station. The input form for your new station appears. For a detailed explanation of the form and each field, refer to Create/Modify Fixed Station.
  2. Complete the following mandatory fields:
    - Licence Type
    - Municipality and Street Address or Site Name
    - Coordinate Origin
    - Geographical Coordinates Format
    - Latitude
    - Longitude
  3. Select whether your station is a Transportable Station.
  4. If your station is not transportable, enter the Antenna Structure Height and the Ground Elevation of the site where that structure is erected.
  5. For a transportable station, complete the Radius of Operation of your station.
  6. Click the Save button. You are presented with a view of the information you have just entered. The system has updated the following fields automatically:
    - Call Sign
    - Last Edited

You should proceed with creating a frequency for this station below.

Creating a frequency on a fixed station

Each new fixed station must have at least one frequency record. To create a frequency:

  1. On the Fixed Station page, click Add Fixed Station Frequency. The input form for your new frequency appears. For a detailed explanation of the form and each field, refer to Create/Edit Fixed Station Frequency.
  2. The first step for any frequency is to select a channel. Next to the Channel field, click Select to open a new window where you can select one of your existing channels or create a new channel. The type of channel you select will affect which of the remaining fields must be completed.
  3. In the next fields, you must specify information about your radio equipment and its technical specifications. Use the Search link to search and retrieve this information from our Radio Equipment List database. Confirm that the information is correct before proceeding.
  4. Specify information about any losses on your lines. Use the Calculate link to open a new window for calculating losses. (Information entered in the calculator is not saved.)
  5. Complete the remainder of the form as it applies to your system. At a minimum, you must provide:
    - Radio Model Number
    - Radio Manufacturer
    - Certification Number
    - First Bandwidth
    - First Class of Emission
    - RF Output Power (if transmitting)
    - Line and Connector Loss
    - Antenna Model Number
    - Antenna Manufacturer
    - Antenna Gain
    - Antenna Height
    - Azimuth of Main Lobe
    - Antenna Polarization
    - Antenna Pattern
  6. When you have completed the form, click the Save button. You are presented with a view of the information you have just entered. The system has updated the following fields automatically:
    - Last Edited
    - a number of fields that display information about the selected channel

If this frequency uses filtering devices, you should proceed with creating a filter for this frequency below. If you have additional frequencies to create, return to the Fixed Station page to create another frequency. When the station includes all components, you should complete the environmental attestation (following filters below).

Creating a filter

Proceed with this section if your are using filtering devices on a specific frequency.

  1. On the Fixed Station Frequency page, click Create Filter. The input form for your new filter appears. For a detailed explanation of the form and each field, refer to Create/Edit Filter.
  2. Complete the remainder of the form. You must provide:
    - Function
    - Tx/Rx
    - Manufacturer Name
    - Model Number
    - Insertion Loss
  3. When you have completed the form, click the Save button. You are presented with a view of the information you have just entered. The system has updated the following fields automatically:
    - Last Edited

If this frequency uses additional filtering devices, you should return to the Fixed Station Frequency page to create another filter. If you have additional frequencies to create, return to the Fixed Station page to create another frequency. When the station includes all components, you should complete the environmental attestation (following filters below).

Attesting a fixed station

We require that you complete an attestation related to any fixed stations that are permanently installed. You do not have to complete this form for transportable stations. To attest your station:

  1. On the Fixed Station page, click Create Attestation. The input form for the attestation appears. For a detailed explanation of the form and each field, refer to Create/Edit Attestation.
  2. Answer each question on the form to the best of your knowledge.
  3. When you have completed the form, click the Save button. You are presented with a view of the information you have just entered. Review the information carefully before proceeding.

After creating all frequencies and any filters and attesting your fixed station, the station is complete. Return to the Application Summary to create additional stations or submit your application.
