Who Requires a Land Mobile Licence?

A person or business requires a land mobile licence issued by Industry Canada so that they may install, operate or possess radio apparatus at a fixed station or mobile station, or perform certain services as authorized by the radio licence. Our land mobile licensees include security companies, taxi services, and government agencies.

There are certain exceptions to this requirement, which are listed in the Radiocommunication Regulations.

The licensing process ensures that your stations do not cause interference with other licensees, and likewise, that other licensees do not interfere with your stations. At the same time, we make sure that all licensees are using their assigned frequencies efficiently, which is especially important in areas of intense spectrum congestion. Finally, we confirm that your equipment and installation meet all standards with respect to your health, safety, and the environment.
