Conduct radio frequency searches

Five frequency search tools are provided on the site allow users to access the non-protected Canada-wide technical data in the ALS database. With this data, users can conduct their own electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) analyses, and domestic coordination, important parts of the licence application process.

All operate in basically the same manner:

1. Access the appropriate search option from the Main Menu of the site.
2. Enter the required search criteria. The criteria differs for each search type (the types are detailed below).
3. Select the fields to display in the results (optional). This option allows you to customize the results of your search by restricting the returned information on the HTML results page to only those fields you specify. The full dataset will be available in an ASCII text file that can be downloaded from the results page.
4. Submit the search.

For the Protected Microwave Frequency Information Search, you do not have the option of customizing the results: simply enter the criteria, and submit the search.

Note: The options you select for your search are stored by your browser using cookies, a browser technology that remembers settings for certain pages, and re-uses them. The next time you conduct a search, the same search results options will be selected by default. In your browser preferences, you can choose to not accept the use of cookies; the search will still be fully functional, but your preferences will not be remembered from session to session.

The search types are:

• Geographical Area Search
  The Geographical Area Search identifies frequency records that are located inside a specified square geographic area, and have a TX or RX frequency within a specified range. The results exclude protected frequency records.

For a Geographical Area Search, enter the Frequency Range, the Search Coordinates, the Search Radius, and the Station Type.

• Frequency Range Search
  The Frequency Range Search identifies frequency records that have a TX or RX frequency within a specified range. The results exclude protected frequency records.

For a Frequency Range Search, enter the Frequency Range and the Station Type.

• Single Frequency Search
  The Single Frequency Search identifies frequency records that have a TX or RX frequency identical to the frequency entered in the search parameters. The results exclude protected frequency records.

For a Single Frequency Search, enter the Frequency and the Station Type.

• Call Sign Search
  The Call Sign Search identifies frequency records that have a Call Sign identical to the Call Sign entered in the search parameters. The results exclude protected frequency records.

For a Call Sign Search, enter the Call Sign.

• Protected Microwave Frequency Information Search
  The Protected Microwave Frequency Information Search identifies protected licence holders who may be using microwave frequencies within the band specified in the longitude range indicated. A variation is applied to the search parameters to protect the confidentiality of the users. For more information about protected frequency records, see the document IPC-2-0-04.

For a Protected Microwave Frequency Information Search, enter the Microwave Frequency Band and the Longitude Range.
